In this instalment we will be taking a look at the transfers that i’ve done at the start of season two. As you’ve all seen in the previous post our first season youth intake has been decent. But for now we will not depend too much on our own youth unless there is a youngster who has what i takes to play in the first team. In a previous post i have stated that i will only spend money that i receive from players that have been sold. So before we can take a look at our incoming transfers we will be taking a look at our outgoing transfers first.
OUTGOING TRANSFERS SEASON TWO
As you can see at the screenshot below quite a few players have left the club. But when you want to rebuild a club and you want to raise it to the next level changes are always needed. Let’s just start at the top and i will explain why i let these players go to other clubs. Richard Nartey has been sold to Blackburn. He is a defender with quite a good potential but nowhere good enough for the Chelsea first team. So when Blackburn offered this small fee i implented a buy back clause which ensures we can buy him back for only five million euro’s. This way when he develops himself properly we can always get him back to the club pretty cheap. Alvaro Morata has been a pre-arranged transfer. It is a shame that i have not had the time to use Morata myself but i understand why the club has sold him for 55 million euro’s to Atletico de Madrid. Marco Alonso has been injured most of the time during season one. This has led to the simple fact that Emerson has taken his chance and has claimed the left back spot. When Leicester came in with such a bid i knew i had to accept it. I was really happy Alonso signed a three year deal with Leicester because we received 28 million euro’s and this amount can go even higher due to certain bonuses. Baba Rahman, Matt Miazga and Lewis Baker all are not good enough to be part of the first team. So every amount that we have received for these boys has been very welcome. They can now develop their own careers somewhere else and we have some more financial space because of them leaving the club.
Andres Christensen has been a regular starter for me during season one. But because i had my eye on a certain young French defender i was happy to accept a 61 million euro bid for our Danish defender. At first Christensen rejected the contract offer from Manchester City but when they returned they finally came to an agreement and so he left in the end. I know i’ve made one of the other title contenders stronger but sometimes these things must happen. Victor Moses left Chelsea for VfB Stuttgart and he was yet another player who was not good enough for the first team. Veteran Olivier Giroud wanted to leave and when Napoli offered a small fee for this French targetman all we could do was accept it. It has no use to keep an unhappy player at the club. This meant that Giroud signed a contract with Napoli and he will move onto the Italian Serie A. Nicolas Tie and Jamal Blackman also did not have a future here and so i decided to sell them. I guess Willian was a big surprise transfer for most people who are following this blog. When Real Madrid came in with their offer i decided to accept it so Willian could decide what he really wanted. Fighting with us to win a Premier League title in season two or move to Spain and try to be happy and lucky there. Sadly enough he rejected our contract offer and moved to Spain. Eventhough his departure was a loss for the team it freed up space for new players to come in and join the team. Important thing to know is that Willian left us during the winter transferperiod so he did stay at the club for around half a season.
After seeing so many players leave the club it was time to bring in some fresh faces. I knew in advance that i needed to make a few high profile signings. This is something the board has implemented into the clubs vision and sadly enough i have not been able to take it out. So there was nothing left to do for me but to sign some good players and that is exactly what i eventually ended up doing.
THOMAS LEMAR – € 29,5M
This 24 year old French winger joined us from Atletico de Madrid. After selling Morata to them i noticed Lemar was placed on the transfer list. As Atletico asked 29,5 million euro’s i knew signing this player would be an absolute bargain. So when i scouted him and the scouting report came back positive i decided to offer the requested amount. Our contract negotiations went smoothly and so Lemar signed a four year contract at our club. This also aligned nicely with our club vision because first team players need to sign four year deals and that is exactly what Lemar has done. In my opinion Lemar will grow into a clublegend and i am sure that he will lift the team to a higher level as soon as he starts playing for us.
HAKIM ZIYECH – € 40M
The ‘Wizzard from Amsterdam’ was a pre-assigned transfer. In real life i am happy for Hakim that he has made such an transfer. But i have serious doubts if he will be an addition to the Chelsea team. In my opinion Hakim can play really well but he will lack the physicality to play in the Premier League. Don’t get me wrong, i hope he proves me wrong but i don’t think he will last long at Chelsea. In my own savegame i have the same doubts. In my tactical system Ziyech will be played on the right or left wing. And eventhough that is not his best position i am hoping that he will develop into an important player. But as the competition in the team is fierce only the best will play and it is up to Hakim to show me that he belongs with the first eleven.
MOUSSA WAGUÉ – € 26M
Yet another ‘bargain’ on the transfermarket was the 22 year old Moussa Wagué. FC Barcelona wanted to sell him and i really do not understand why. This young player has everything about him to turn into a world class player in the future. And that is exactly why i call this fullback a transfer bargain. For most clubs 26 million euro’s is quite a lot of money. But in two to three seasons i will be able to sell this player between 80 and 100 million euro’s if he keeps on developing himself. The arrival of Wagué does mean that some other player will have to leave somewhere down the line but for now i am really happy with this signing.
KARAMOKO DEMBÉLÉ – € 15M
Sign young players to develop for profit is one of the lines in the club vision and that is exactly where Karamoko Dembélé fits in. This eighteen year old English winger has all the potential to grow into a very good player. As the competition here at Chelsea FC is fierce he will start by playing in our under 18 and under 23 teams. But i do expect this lad to eventually make the step into the first team. If he fails to do this i am sure we will be able to sell him around 45 million euro’s somewhere down the line. I was surprised that Celtic let this talent go so cheap and easily because especially for them he would become a starplayer within the next two seasons.
LEONIDAS STERGIOU – € 15M
This eighteen year old Swiss defender falss into the exact same category as Karamoko Dembélé. He is young, the media already calls him a wonderkid and he has all the right attributes and potential to grow into a world class player. For the next two seasons he will either player in our under 23 team or move to a club on a loanspell. I want this lad to play on the highest level possible and so one of our afilliate clubs (Vitesse) is also a good place to start. In the Eredivisie Stergiou can play against clubs like Ajax, Feyenoord, PSV and AZ and that will only aid his development. After those two seasons i expect Stergiou to become a first team player.
GIANLUIGI BUFFON – FREE TRANSFER
As i’ve stated earlier i had my doubts about my first goalkeeper Kepa during the first part of season one. During the second half he recovered very well and was an important factor for our success last season. But when a player like Gianluigi Buffon is available on a free transfer you just can’t say no. Even though this goalkeeper is 42 years old his attributes are still awesome. And so i now have a goalkeeper i feel really comfortable with and Kepa will need to watch his every move. I am still looking to swap goalkeepers somewhere down the line. As Buffon isn’t getting any younger he will be past his peak in a season or so but he is going to be one hell of a back-up goalkeeper.
ABDOU DIALLO – €10M + PLAYER EXCHANGE
This 24 year old French defender was wanted by several European topclubs. And as soon as i noticed that Liverpool was after him i just wanted to make sure they would not get him. So i knew i had to use the big guns to ensure a transfer to Chelsea was happening. Luckily for me PSG was interested in one of my players and thus a transferdeal could be made. For ten million euro’s and Jorginho we finally were able to sign Diallo. Now most people would not consider this a fair deal but to me it does. Jorginho was a key player during season one but with Kovacic, Loftus-Cheek, Mount and Kanté we already have a lot of decent midfielders. And that is why i agreed on this deal which might have costs us a bit too much but in the end i know Diallo will grow into an important player for our club.
As i’ve stated earlier in this post one of the club vision lines states that i need to buy players to develop for profit. So i have been spending quite a few million of euro’s on players that might not make it into the first team but will end up being sold for quite some money. This means that i’ve bought Lars Dippel from Austria Wien for just over a million euro’s, Dale Lewis came over from Swanse for two and a half million euro’s, Paulo Bernardo came over from Benfica for five million euro’s and Coniah Boyce-Clarke came over from Reading for just under five million euro’s. The transfers that i’ve done during the januari transfer window will be shown in my season two review.
MEET THE TEAM
FINAL WORDS ..
I am very happy with the transferdeals that we’ve been ablo to make so far. As i’ve stated earlier the januari transfers will be revealed during the season two review. For now i would like to thank everybody that has taken the time to read this post. Stay safe for now and i hope you come back once a new instalment has been released.
